Current & Coming Productions

Every issue carries listings of the shows running in London at the time, with details of when they opened and contact numbers for Box Office and Press enquiries. Future schedules give details of openings, both real and rumoured, for many months ahead in both London and the Regions. These influential listings are used by the critics in planning their reviewing programme and by theatres anxious to avoid clashes of first nights.

What does it do?

Every two weeks, Theatre Record brings you, between one set of covers, the full, unabridged reviews of the UK’s major theatre critics from the daily, weekly and Sunday newspapers and magazines.

(Click "contents" to see the list of shows reviewed in the latest issue)

They cover openings in and out of London, with Scottish theatre also reviewed by the critics of the Scotsman in Edinburgh and the Herald in Glasgow, plus The List. Fringe shows get extra attention from the critical teams of the weekly listings magazines, Time Out and What’s On. Special supplements cover festivals and seasons such as Edinburgh (official and fringe), LIFT and the London International Mime Festival

What else?

As well as reviews, each show is represented by a full listing of cast and technical credits – who played what, who did the lighting and so on. Production photographs are published whenever possible, to provide a visual as well as a verbal record of the ongoing history of British theatre as it happens. Each issue is prefaced by Prompt Corner, (Click "Prompt" to see the contents of the current Prompt Corner) a provocative commentary on the issue’s productions – and their reviewers – by Theatre Record editor Ian Shuttleworth (theatre reviewer for The Financial Times), and also includes a column by Ian Herbert (editor of the last three editions of Who's Who In the Theatre (click "At the Back" to see the contents of Ian Herbert's current column) as well as news and book reviews.
